Food, Folks and Fun: Work Party This Friday!

Happy New Year from HappyDirt!
We hope you’ve made it happily and healthily through the holiday season and still have some party-ing left in you ‘cuz you’re invited to join us this Friday at our first official work party to get the year off to a good start.  We’ve got some hoophouses that need to be duct-taped, crop covers that need to be hot-glued, and various other fun farm projects to get down with.  Since the main project involves adhesion, we’re officially dubbing it the ADHESIVE PARTY of 2012.  Remember, a community that STICKS together, sticks TOGETHER!!!!  (Haa-haa-haa!)
Oh yeah, you’re also invited to stay out afterwards for some down-home farm fare and jamming music in the living room – bring a potluck dish if you like, and musical instruments if you’d like to jam.  Please RSVP to happydirtveggiepatch@gmail.com so we can plan accordingly.  We look forward to seeing lots of old friends and new faces too – come hang out, check out the farm and play in the dirt!  And if you miss this one, don’t worry – we’ll have more.
For party details, read on:

Itinerary:    Adhese (1-5pm-ish), Potluck dinner and jam session (5-8pm-ish)
What to Bring:  Your wonderful self and any friends or family members (all ages welcome), outdoor clothing and boots or other mud-ready footwear, work gloves, water, hot glue guns if you have some, a potluck dish if you want (we’ll provide a basic vegetarian meal of grain and farm veggies), dinnerware to eat and drink with, musical instrument or dancin’ feet….
Location:   HappyDirt Veggie Patch, 3524 Alley Lane, Medford, OR 97501
Directions:  We’re right off Hwy. 99 between Phoenix and Medford.  Take Hwy. 99 to West Glenwood Road which is in south Medford about a mile north of downtown Phoenix – there’s a Goodwill across the street and a big “25-cent Car Wash” sign at that corner.  If you’re coming from the south, turn left onto West Glenwood (or right if you’re coimng from the north), cross the train tracks and bear left on the dirt road, we’re the third house on the right, it’s brown.  You can park across the street from the house in the empty lot area.  Then walk down the driveway and keep going straight to the left of the carport, go through the green gate and that’s our farm!
Note:  Please note that our farm and farmhouse are currently under construction.  We’re working hard this winter to get our everything all neat and tidy for the summer season, but in the meantime, come hang out at the farm and please excuse the mess!!!

HappyDirt Is Now Selling Online!

This week we have joined THRIVE’s Rogue Valley Local Foods online market.  Once you sign up, you can order from HappyDirt or other local farms and food producers, and have your order delivered to a local pick-up point.  It is free to register as  a customer, and Oregon Trail cards are accepted.  There is no obligation–you are free to buy as much or as little as you wish each week.  Home delivery is also available for a small fee to many areas. Check it out at http://www.localfoodmarketplace.com/roguevalley/

Our selection of available veggies will vary each week. This week we have 16 items: Arugula, turnips, 2 types of carrots, kale, collards, bell and Italian frying peppers, jalapenos, serranos, baby and full size heirloom potatoes, mizuna, radishes, chard, and butternut squash.

We think that this will be a convenient and economical way to provide outstanding veggies to the hungry masses while the local growers markets are closed.  We anticipate that we will have an ongoing selection of produce through the winter, as our newly constructed hoophouses start yielding.

If you are a restaurant or have a need for larger quantities, we offer wholesale prices with a minimum order of $40.

P.S. Our blog site is under construction… we’ll be posting pictures ASAP!
